GOLF DAY BOOSTS FUNDING FOR CEREBRAL PALSY EDUCATION CENTRE

On 23 October 2023, a beautiful Spring day in Melbourne, 112 golfers assembled at Riversdale Golf Club in the Melbourne suburb of Mount Waverley to participate in the Mayor of Monash Charity Golf Day.
Just prior to hit off the golfers were addressed by the then Mayor of the City of Monash, Councillor Tina Samardzija.
The event was held under the auspices of the Mayor but organized and conducted by a Committee from the Rotary Clubs within the Monash area, namely Waverley, Glen Waverley, Mount Waverley and Monash.  The Committee was chaired by Barry Muldoon, the President of the Rotary Club of Waverley. The inaugural event was conducted way back in 1978 and except for the pandemic lockdown period in Melbourne has been held every year since.
The 2023 event was an overwhelming success enabling a cheque for $28,500 to be presented to the Cerebral Palsy Education Centre (CPEC) located in Beacon Street, Glen Waverley.
The official cheque handover took place at CPEC attended by Councillor Samardzija, the Rotary Club organizers and CPEC officers and staff.
Barry Muldoon commented that “the Rotary Clubs within Monash saw the Golf Day as a key Rotary community activity for the year and a great opportunity to help organisations in need of assistance”.
The Golf Day was largely a sponsored event with companies paying an entry fee and nominating teams of four players connected with their business. These companies are to be congratulated on their generosity and their key role in achieving a most successful outcome for the Golf Day and much needed funds for CPEC.
Thanks must also go to the management of the Riversdale Golf Club for their generosity in making the course available. And a very big thank you to Community Bank Pinewood (Bendigo Bank) the major sponsor for the event.
At the conclusion of play most participants remained for dinner in the Clubhouse. During the evening a major auction was held and various raffles conducted with assistance provided by CPEC and Rotary representatives which significantly boosted the financial benefit to CPEC.
A most successful event in every respect.
